Three Triathlon in Three Weeks for Carlos Sosa
Three weeks of continuous competitions, three differents islands and three differents type of triathlon’s circuits. And one Triathlete, our Carlos Sosa, who tell us the challenges and emotions he experienced in this trio of triathlon, in the amazing Canary Islands (La Gomera, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote).
Hi Carlos, we are very happy to listen to your experience, I think you have lived three intense weeks! Please tell us something about it.
Here’s Carlos report of the 3 Triathlon!
First race – La Gomera, 30th of July 2016 XXIII Triathlon of La Gomera, Canary Island
Sarturday 30th of July started three weeks of continuous triathlon sprints, in one circuit known and admired principally for its cycling segment. One fast swimming segment, where the conditions of the beach were very good with no swell, considering the protection of the harbour, and the ideal temperature allowed me to swim without diving suit. After that an hard cycling segment was waiting for us. It involved two big mountain pass – one short in which the wind penalised severely and a longer one where the wind gave some rest in certain points protected by the mountains-, going together in a bunch has been very helpful to face those strong gusts that lashed San Sebastian, capital of La Gomera. However the different levels and tactics of each one of the bikers at the head of the race let the bunch scattered, so I had to join another biker trying to outdistance the group of follower, nevertheless that big and strong group reached us and then again scattered in the slope towards the finish line, where the levels of technic of each one of us were clearly visible. To finish, we did 5kms of running on the avenue and the sport harbour, in which I felt the pain of the cycling segment losing the first place in my category, ending second in the Junior and 19th in the general.
Second Race –Telde, 3 of August 2016 Telde, Melenara Beach, Canary Islands
After taking advantage of some days in La Gomera training in the mountains pass, I went back home to prepare the Triathlon of Telde, in Melenara Beach. A day in which we arrived in a good way, but with a very short swimming (550 m in front of the 750 m required) reduced the advantages that I could take in the water, then an almost flat circuit, with some short slope, but with a strong east wind whose occupation was to create worries about the second segment, in which I could hooked the first group after a great effort together with another biker, with headwind; nevertheless, after reaching the group and keeping a first lap with an intense rhythm, the group decided to slow down, getting to a void rhythm and passing from less than 10 to 30 people (as I noticed). This situation undermined me seriously, arriving at the “T2” with too much people and reducing my possibilities to stay in a good position of the classification and losing my first position in the Junior category, ending second in the Junior and 19th in the General, after a very slow running race in a very narrow and complicated circuit and with a painful injury, occurred in foot sole during the race, that has caused me pain until today.
Third race – Arrecife, Lanzarote 13th of August 2016 XXIV Triatlón Real Club Náutico de Arrecife
Finally, to end these three hard weeks, on the 13th of August, in the triathlon of Arrecife – called The Casino in the past-, things got better. A competition that I use to call “talisman”, because it was the first triathlon I did outside my Island and in which I won my first Canarian Championship. A competition with a very fast swimming, with circuits differents from the ones I did in the past editions, with start line from the water, unlike the most common start line from the sand, in Canary Islands. In this edition I could score the best third preliminary result in the swimming. After, a circuit totally for sprinter cyclists, in which the wind gave some rest, completely the opposite of what happened in the triathlon of la Gomera, competed only two weeks before. A bittersweet taste during this segment because I fell behind from the head of the race, composed by me and other three people leaders of the Championship, technical mistake that the experience will heal! For this reason the cycling segment turned into a solitary fight during two (of the three) laps of the circuit, then I finally let a small group of followers to reach me so I felt more protected and consequently less exhausted both physically and mentally.
In the 8th position I got off from the bicycle, ran to the boxes for a fast transition and ready to do a great race, fast and amazing, along the avenue of La Playa del Reducto; two suffered laps and then I could held the 9th position in the general and first in the category, celebrating a palmares “recovery” and my first top 10 in one of the Canarian Series Competition of Triathlon.
Hard work and perseverance have been started flourishing, with a long way to go, and with the help of my sponsors, such as “MoringaON” with their nutritional and emotional support, will be even better!!”
