24H Relay Race in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
At the end of May in the Parque Romano, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, took place the second edition of 24h Run.
Runners gave it their all, as they displayed during the 24H Run around the Parque Romano, a race whose objective was to run the maximum number of laps around the Circuit in 24 hours. Each lap has 1km. Runners can participate in team or individual, team has to be minimum 6 persons and maximum 12, there are three categories: mixto (its mixed with men and women, minimum 3 women), women and men.
Carlos Sosa, MoringaOn Brand Ambassador participated in equipe at the 24h run and placed second with his team.
Here his report of the trail: “The second edition of the 24HRS Run, has probably been one of the most suffered and enjoyed day in my sport experience, a day full of emotions and unforgettable moments.
I could have the honor of opening the race team at 12 noon of Saturday, where everyone knew the needs of reserve energy to withstand 24 hrs of high voltage competition, in which, for at least 6 hours, we were in the course, ready to receive our replacement and make as many laps as possible, in my case 33kms in 3 shifts (12-14, 20-22 and 04-06 hours) along with two other members of my team in my turn, being 12 in total. It has been a very hard race with a high intensity work, with a great effort of both mind and body. The Training with Cristian Martin showed their results and thanks to sponsors supports I noticed a great progression as well. I had approximately 5 hours of rest between sessions, taking advantage to eat and regain strength, to use the ice water of the water pool to give relief and recover the legs, take some massages, try to sleep, even for just one hour in the tent of the team with our sleeping bags and encourage our peers. I really thank my team for saving me during the second session, when I lost my stamina and they saved one of my series and I am so grateful to them and to the publc for supporting me and my parents that were there , even at 4 am to support and help me. The atmosphere was just amazing.
I don’t have enough words to express what I feel. I met a lot of new friends in such a few time. We suffered all together, waking up with such pain in the legs that we could hardly bear to stand but we did it, we stood up and fought just for our friends. We fell down and then again we got up with the consciousness of fighting non only for yourself but for the one that is doing his best to help the team. We all gave 100% and this is what makes us great and fil us with pride. Finally we gained second place in the male category, with 398 km of course and 8 km from the first classified (forbidden surrender), we competed honestly from the start to the end of the race.
Happy for going home with silver medal and very satisfied with the people I met, with challenging my limits both physical and psychological. Then the words of one person, the one who, with his family, created this great team “Together against Cancer”. This man was at the race all the 24h hours, he encouraged us, living and sharing with us work and pain with empathy, in spite of tiredness.
His words were literally: “ I have been fighting against cancer since more than 4 years. It is not nice, it is hard. (In 2014 I was hospitalized for more than 6 months). Today you gave to me the best and funny 24 hours that hasn’t happened to me for a long time. I want to thank everybody again for these 24 unforgettable hours”.
I think more words are not necessary, we live for this…”
Thanks to Carlos for his touching story
